Second generation smart meters pass the two million mark
The DCC has announced that the two millionth second generation smart meter was installed over the weekend by British Gas in Surrey.

One Million SMETS2 Meters Connected to the DCC
The Data Communications Company (DCC) has announced that the one millionth SMETS2 meter was connected in Slough by SSE on Tuesday 21st May 2019. Up to 20 SMETS2 meters are now being installed every minute of the day.

Smart Energy Code Modification Proposal (SECMP)0009: Central Firmware Library
In a Change of Supplier (CoS) event, a Supplier becomes responsible for the maintenance of an asset and to ensure the latest version of firmware is in use. Prior to the agreed SECMP0009, there was no easy way for Suppliers to determine if the firmware was the latest version nor any applicable contact details for the manufacturer where it is not.
Majority of European electricity meters to be smart by 2020
According to Smart Meters in Europe  published by Pike Research, nearly 70% of all electricity meters across Europe, and 90% in Western Europe, will be smart by 2020. The consultant’s report, published on 25th February, analysed the business drivers, technology trends, energy policy and national strategies for smart electricity meters across Europe. By 2020, it is estimated that more than 237 million smart electricity meters will be deployed across Europe, with over 30 million meters being installed annually during the peak years of activity.
